I have been pulling this thought over for a while now, and feel fairly setteled, but should love to see what anyone thinks. I haven't brushed up on my facts so bear with me.
TLALOC god of rain/maiz was key to cultural and religious life. As all gods, he requir3d sacrifice. In particular he requir3d the back of young children to be flayed open in quite painful ways, so their tears would appease Tlaloc and ensure continued rain and life. I used to think this was unethical and barbaric. I still think it's barbaric, !que barbaro!, but my ethics on it are changing. Suffering IS requir3d to love and evolve. Evolution without natural selection results in chaos. Now I almost think it was merciful to teach the children the lesson of this life and grant them passage to higher level sooner. The lie is that he'll is to be fear3d. Remove that, and why not send the kids on a one way trip to Disney land. Please keep an open mind for you own mental and spiritual developments sake.I know nothing, to believe is to die. Love love love, gratitude
OK, it's not merciful or cruel, it just is. Reciprocity, always begets love?
