Ontological Shock is a concept that I've seen discussed multiple times on this platform. Here is my spin on it.
Are you familiar with the concept of Jet Lag? The groggy feeling you get when you travel on a plane across multiple time zones. Well, that's what I equate Ontological Shock to, something I refer to as Dimensional Lag.
Ontological Shock can occur when your consciousness travels across multiple dimensions. As stated, before on JRP the higher frequency or dimension to which your consciousness travels, the higher the bandwidth and ability to transmit and receive data. At higher frequencies or dimensions information is transferred not only via words, but by pictures, sound, color, feelings and emotions. Time is also greatly affected at these higher dimensions and can be escaped entirely the further you progress.
At these higher dimensions an experience that occurs, while may only be lasting seconds or minutes at "Earth time", you may receive days, weeks, years, or even eons of data and information. JRP has stated this at length, but the significance of this data exchange becomes apparent when you come back down to Earthly reality.
Consciousness has limited processing power. Alot of our process power is used for us just to keep our basic life functions running and process reality. When you "return" with large amounts of data your consciousness has two options; 1. Hold that data in your consciousness 2. Suppress the data to your subconscious.
Typically, we have not developed the bandwidth or brain power to hold eons of information and data and still be able to go out in society and maintain our social lives. A majority of the time, that amount of data is suppressed to our subconscious. The data can then be accessed through meditation (if you know it's there). If you try to hold that amount of data in your waking consciousness and lack the bandwidth to process it, you may often go through a state or period of psychosis.
With all this being said the feeling of your consciousness travelling across multiple dimensions and receiving large amounts of data can be very disorienting. It can leave you feeling groggy, out of touch with reality and in haze. Just understanding this process has been extremely helpful, and as we experience dimensional lag more often, it will take away some of the "shock" associated with it.
I'm sure others will develop other remedies to assist us with this process, but I've found that staying grounded and getting back up on the horse is often the best way to get over this feeling. Going to work and just going through the motions is helpful. Sure, it doesn't feel great while you're at the office/jobsite and you looked detached and out of it, but it will speed up the process of being able to reconnect with the present reality. Much like a bad hangover, sometimes the best medicine is just to have another drink in the morning to help ease the transition towards becoming sober again.
So, while it sure as hell isn't like the feeling of enlightenment. As the Buddhist saying goes, before enlightenment chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment chop wood and carry water. Life goes on. Just because you experienced a little Dimensional Lag (and it's not always little) don't let it stop you from mediating again or living your best life.
Really, really good, especially the ending! I also needed to read that too!
This is very well timed and well put together. Thank you for pointing this out! I will go about my days, with this in mind now :]
